Voce Spettacolo at the “Secret Cinema” event in London

di Michele Valente.

Voce Spettacolo have attended to ‘Secret Cinema’ on sunday 9th april at the Troxy theatre in London. Secret Cinema is a 360-degrees event launched in 2007and dedicated to people wishing to live an unconventional and interactive Cinema experience, where the boundaries between performers and audience are constantly shifting.

It’s held in a secret Location and recurs on a periodical basis. The idea was born to create an interactive situation in which all the attendees can live within an uncommon and original venue that takes its inspiration from a movie (which title is not disclosed until the event starts).

The whole event is oriented to keep a mysterious atmosphere around it and all attendees are required not to disclose any details about their experience or either about the movie that has been projected until the seasonal event has ended.

In order to comply to this, also all mobile phones are sealed at the entrance.

Secret Cinema has raised a lot of interest and several followers in the past years, becoming a tendency event, so that all tickets become quickly sold out.

All the attendees are required to adhere to the classic black tie dress code, also they have to observe vow of silence once the event has started. The only way to communicate with other people is by a notepad and pen.

The mysterious atmosphere has also been enriched by the fact that all people have been requested to prepare and carry with them a ‘letter of devotion’, to be given to a stranger during the event.

It is not exactly specified what is meant by this, but we reckon people is allowed to interpret the request by putting down what they feel and all their personal concept of devotion.

The movie this time was The Hand Maiden, is a 2016 South Korean erotic psychological thriller film directed by Park Chan-wook and starring Kim Min-hee, Kim Tae-ri, Ha Jung-woo and Cho Jin-woong. It is inspired from the novel Fingersmith by Welsh writer Sarah Waters, with the setting changed from Victorian era Britain to Korea under Japanese colonial rule.

After the movie, the event continued with live music and all people were invited to the dance floor.

We’ve enjoyed the night and we can say it was an unconventional situation that’s been worth to experience and take part.

From another side we’ve been wondering whether the fact of not disclosing to the attendees any Instruction on how the event was going to evolve, was part of the secret and mysterious aura or not…Curious? ..give it a try and join the next event…!
