8th Annual New Media Film Festival

(Los Angeles, CA) – There were new learning experiences for everyone at the 8th New Media Film Festival which has always been on the cutting edge of filmmaking and this year did not disappoint. The festival happened June 6, 7, 8, 2017 at The Landmark Theater.  Susan Johnston, Founder/Director, New Media Film Festival always makes sure that Film Fest impresses international audiences with its diverse genres and cutting edge methods of storytelling – from web series, 3D, 360, AR, AI, 5D to VR. There were Eighty-seven (87) new media films and content from 34 countries and outer space shown at festival along with 29 World Premieres, 11 US Premieres and 21 L.A. Premieres.

The Uncle Earl Live Music Performance
Award Winning American Radio Artist, The Uncle Earl, aka Lacy Darryl Phillips performed “R U Ready” from his International debut compilation, Its Time.

Honoring Stories worth Telling in 3D, Drone, Pilots, Shorts 1, Web Series 1 & 2, Trailers, New Media, STEAM, Docs, Animation, Student, Digital Comic, SRC, followed by a Q&A.
 
International Art Exhibit presented by Jane Yacavone – Blues Legends
During the entire festival, attendees enjoyed the international art exhibit of this pristine Blues Legends collection of photographs by artist and world traveler, Jane Yacavone featuring BB King, Robert Stroger, Richie Havens, Ruth Brown and Booker T.

 
 
 
The Web Series Superstar Panel was moderated by Producer and Director Lon Strickland, former Development Executive for Machinima, a popular digital network and co-founder of Octopie, and animation network featuring panelist, Doug “Doog” Bresler, podcast personality best known for Doogtoons.com. The Web Series Superstar Panel looked into the multi platform viewing options, technological expansion, and taught how to engage a global audience and followed by a Q&A.

 
The World Premiere of Non-Transferable directed by Brendan Bradley and his all-star cast.
There were also film screenings of stories worth telling in Web Series 2, Mobile/Tablet, Scripts, followed by Q&A.
 
 
The Technology Panel
Featured veteran Cinematographer James Mathers, President, The Digital Cinema Society, Ted Schilowitz, his current roles are as Futurist for 20th Century Fox and Chief Creative Officer at Barco Michael Mansouri, Co-Founder of Radiant Images, Terry Brown, Nvidia and Jonathan Landman, Teradek that discussed New Media Content and looking to the future, was followed by a Q&A.

In the main hall of the festival, attendees had the opportunity to view the film Flatline directed by Jon Schnitzer. This VR film was pitched and funded at New Media Film Festival 2016. Julian McCrea of Portal Experiences was a speaker on our Tech Panel. This film was Not in competition.
 
Also, film screenings included honoring stories worth telling in Virtual Reality, APPs, Shorts 2, Sniplers, Music Videos, Q&A.
 
The Awards Ceremony included a Special Presentation Love Song to the Earth
Featuring Paul McCartney, Sean Paul, Colbie Callait, Natasha Bedingfield, Q’orianka Kilcher and others. Directed by Trey Fanjoy, Produced by Jeffy Cope. All proceeds from the Love Song project benefit Friends of the Earth and the United Nations Foundation. Premiered with Ban Ki-mon in Paris at UNFCCC COP 21.
