GURU LIVE 2018: LONDON
Guru Live is the UK’s biggest film, games and TV festival for graduates and those new to the creative industries.
Packed full of workshops, masterclasses, panels and talks, Guru Live is your chance to hear from industry professionals on hot topics and latest trends and is designed to give your career a boost.
Guru Live takes place in London on 15 & 16 September at BAFTA in central London.

Paul Higginson (executive vice president EMEA for Twentieth Century Fox) will discuss his experience of cinema marketing and distribution operations, as well as local film acquisitions for Fox in EMEA.
MASTERCLASS: MARIA DJURKOVIC ON PRODUCTION DESIGN
BAFTA-nominated production designer Maria Djurkovic (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Imitation Game, The Hours) will deliver a masterclass sharing her craft and design insights on her celebrated and diverse body of work.
BAFTA ROCLIFFE NEW WRITING SHOWCASE: TV COMEDY
A showcase of three TV comedy script extracts by emerging UK writing talent, selected by an industry jury. Featuring producer Lindsay Hughes (Hunderby, Gavin and Stacey) and writer Robert Popper (Friday Night Dinner, Look Around You) critiquing the scripts as performed by professional actors.
GWENDOLINE CHRISTIE SELECTS – THE PIANO
Screening of Jane Campion’s masterpiece The Piano, newly restored in its 25th anniversary year. Followed by a discussion with Gwendoline Christie about how the film inspired her remarkable career.
MEET THE COMMISSIONERS: DAYTIME
The opportunity to hear from a panel of daytime commissioners on their commissioning priorities. Featuring Jane Beacon (​The Chase, Good Morning Britain​) an​David Sayer (Couples Come Dine With Me, My Floating Home).
TV PREVIEW: VANITY FAIR

BFI FLARE MENTORS
Each year a selection of LGBTQ+ identified filmmakers who want to keep developing their careers in film are supported as part of the BFI NETWORK @ Flare mentorship programme in partnership with BAFTA. This year’s BAFTA mentors are Olivier Kaempfer, Lucy Cohen, John Cameron MitchellWayne Yip and Mary Burke, who will share with the filmmakers their industry knowledge, professional connections, passion for cinema and an overview of LGBTQ+ features entering the marketplace.

BAFTA SHOWCASES BRITISH TALENT IN CHINA
This week, we’re in Shanghai, China, as we continue our programme to build cross-cultural collaborative opportunities between our countries. Producer Dionne Walker and writer/actor Sarah Quintrell have flown over from the UK and will be our special guests at a VIP afternoon tea at the Shanghai International Film Festival this evening, hosted in conjunction with the British Council. The pair have been attending numerous festival events over the course of the week, meeting leading figures from the Chinese film industry and being matched with peer mentors from China.
