Ciao Andrea, grazie per essere ospite di Voce Spettacolo. Ci parli un pò di te? Come hai iniziato a fare il dj e a produrre la tua musica?
Ciao, grazie a voi. Ho cominciato a far musica elettronica a 14 anni con i primi softwares sul mio Pc. Sono sempre stato affascinato da questo tipo di arte, creare qualcosa per la gente, specialmente se alla gente piace quello che fai. Fare il dj, penso sia la conseguenza di ciò che si fa in studio, in particolar modo a partire dagli anni 2000. Ho iniziato a metter musica per passione in un piccolo disco pub a Torino, la mia città. Ero stanco di ballare da solo nella mia cameretta, con i miei pezzi preferiti
Da dove viene la tua iniziale fonte d’ispirazione e quale credi che sia la chiave del tuo successo?
Ero totalmente fatto di music techno negli anni 94’-2000 (sono nato nel 1980). Ho cercato di portare quel sound aggressivo ed energetico verso la musica house (funky), così nel 2002 nasce Fuzzy Hair.
Hai suonato in molti paesi nel mondo, ti piace quest’aspetto del tuo lavoro? Cosa pensi della gente e dei tuoi fan che fanno la fila per vederti esibire?
Credo ci siano due tipi di persone, quelle che amano la musica elettronica, che seguono artisti e ballano tutta la notte e quelle che riempiono i locali solo perché è il club del momento ma in realtà non hanno interesse verso il tipo di musica e l’artista. Il pubblico appassionato e pieno d’energia di fronte a te, quando stai suonando…è il massimo. Fanno sì che la tua passione aumenti.
Il tuo remix della hit di Mousse T. “Right about now” è stato davvero un successo globale, ha raggiunto il top delle classifiche e rimane ancora oggi un capolavoro che ispira tanta gente. Che ci puoi dire a proposito di questo successo?
Sono molto felice che la gente si ricordi di questo pezzo e continui a chiedermi di suonarlo, credo sia diventato un “classico”. In quel periodo i miei remix di Eric Morillo, Harry Romero & J. Nunez “Dancin” e quello di David Guetta “Stay” furono grossi successi. Poi Mousse T. mi contattò per quel remix ed io accettai. La versione originale era più vicina alla musica rock, io ho tagliato la voce, inserendo una bassline pulsante ‘fresca’, con una struttura diversa, così nacque il pezzo! Fui poi un po’ stupito del suo successo radiofonico, per me era un pezzo club
Come consideri l’ambiente house Europeo in confronto a quello Americano? Inoltre, quale credi che sarà il trend futuro dopo l’EDM? Credi che ci stiamo riavvicinando verso il sound house tradizionale?
Penso che l’EDM sia uno stile musicale molto energetico che fa saltare la gente dopo una ripartenza; è la principale caratteristica ed è quello che alla gente piace e quello che vogliono. Per cui credo che i suoni potranno cambiare, così’ come il bpm, ma i tratti principali rimarranno gli stessi. Non so se il panorama musicale riproporrà l’EDM con lo stesso successo in futuro, ma per quanto mi riguarda, so che sto ritornando al ritmo house, alle “mie origini”. Continuerò su questa strada di sicuro.
Sei molto ben conosciuto come talentuoso remixer, oltre che famoso dj nel mondo. Hai avuto collaborazioni con star internazionali come David Guetta, Bob Sinclar, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Tom Novy, Benny Benassi e molti altri. Cosa ci vuole per trovare il sound giusto in un buon remix ed anche per un buon pezzo?
Penso non ci siano regole scritte per fare una hit di successo. Alcuni produttori copiano le grandi hit del momento per provare a fare un terzo del loro successo, penso che non sia il modo giusto…ma la qualità musicale è oggettiva per me! Ricevo centinaia di promo e spesso ascolto bei pezzi che non rientrano nel mio stile o che sarebbe difficile inserire nei miei dj set, ma se un pezzo è brillante si capisce. Per cui un pezzo che suona bene e con un’idea forte è un bel punto di partenza per arrivare alsuccesso.
Qual è stata la tua esperienza professionale più gratificante?
I fans appassionati che mi seguono e mi supportano da 15 anni di carriera, sono sicuramente la mia più gratificante esperienza professionale.
l tuo singolo “Heartbeat” è stato appena pubblicato dalla Zulu Records e sembra stia facendo piuttosto bene! Puoi dirci qualcosa a proposito di com’è nato questo pezzo e quali sono le tue aspettative? Quali sono i tuoi programmi e progetti per il futuro?
Amo particolarmente il sound house/garage, i Disclosure sono i tra i miei produttori preferiti, penso siano molto freschi ed emozionali. Amo anche il genere bass-house (quello che ho sempre fatto), per cui ho deciso di mettere insieme le due cose. “Heartbeat” è esattamente quello che cercavo e sono felice di sapere che è supportato da grossi dj house come Tony Humphries, Paco Osuna, Sam Divine, Robert Owens e molti altri.

Ciao Andrea, thanks for being our guest on Voce Spettacolo. Can you tell us a bit about yourself? How did you start djing and producing your music?
Ciao, thanks to you. I started to make electronic music at 14 years old with the first softwares on my PC. I’ve always been fascinated for this art, creating something for people is great, especially when they love what you are doing. Djing I think is the consequence of what you do in studio, especially since 2000s. I started to play music for passion in a small disco-pub in my city Turin. …I was tired to dance alone in my bedroom with my favourite tracks.
Where did you get your initial source of inspiration and what do you think is the key of your success?
I was fully inloved in techno music in 94′-2000 (I was born in 1980). I tried to bring that aggressive vibes with pumping sounds to house (funky) music and in 2002 FUZZY HAIR was born.
You’ve been playing all over the world across many countries, do you like this aspect of your job? What do you think about all the people and fans that queue to see you performing?
I think there is 2 kind of people, guys that loves electronic music, they follow artists and dance all night long and people that fill the club only because is the trendy-club of the moment and they don’t care about music. Passionate, energetic people in front of you ..when you are playing..is the TOP. They increase your passion.
Your remix of Mousse T’s hit “Right About Now” was really a global success, reaching top of the charts and still remains a masterpiece inspiring many people nowadays. What can you tell us about this?
I’m very happy that people remember and they continue to ask me to play it, I can say its a ‘classic’. In that period FUZZY HAIR remix of Eric Morillo, Harry Romero & J.Nunez ‘Dancin’ and David Guetta ‘Stay’ were HUGE successes. Mousse T. contacted me and I accepted. The original mix was close to rock music, I cut the voices I put a pulsing original bassline with a different structure and it was born! I was abit shocked when I heard it in air play on radio networks, I made it only for the clubs.
How do you consider the Europeans House music environment compared to US? Also what do you guess is going to be the next house trend after EDM? Do you think we’re getting close back to the proper and classic house rhythm?
I think EDM is a really energetic music style that makes jump people after the drop: it is the main characteristic and it is what people love and what they want. So I think it will change the sound, bpm but the main trait will be the same. I don’t know if house music will cover EDM successfull in the future, but I know that I’m back to house rhythm ‘to my origins’. I will continue on this way for sure.
You’re very well known as a very talented remixer, and also a notorious Dj all over the world. You’ve had collaborations with international superstars like David Guetta, Bob Sinclar, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Tom Novy, Benny Benassi and many others. What does it take to find the right sound for a good remix and also for a brilliant hit?
I think there are not written-rules for make a brillant hit. Some producers copy the main hits of the moment for trying to do 1/3 of their success, I guess it is not the deal..but music quality is objective in my opinion! I receive hundreds of promos and I often hear great tracks that are not my music-style or that they would be difficult to play in my sets, but if a piece is an anthem you feel it. So a track that sounds very good and with a cool idea is a good startpoint for success.
What was you most gratifying professional experience?
The passionate fans that follow and support me since 15 years of career is the most gratifying professional experience.
Your single “Heartbeat” has recently been released by Zulu Records and looks is doing quite well! Can you tell us a bit how this single was born and what your expectations are… Also what are your plans and project for the next future?
I really like the actual house/garage sound, Disclosure are my favorite producers, I think they are so fresh and emotional. I also love bass-house ..(is what I always did) so I put them together. ‘Heartbeat’ is exactly what I was looking for, and I’m very happy to know that is supported by big house dj like Tony Humphries, Paco Osuna, Sam Divine, Robert Owens and many more.
