Amplifying the connection between artist and audience, Rodriguez Jr.’s ‘Visualized’ is his most intimate and ambitious performance concept yet, retaining the heady energy of rave, while simultaneously enhancing it towards a live concert experience.
Although he debuted in the RA Top Live Acts poll at no.31 last year, the Frenchmen has long received plaudits for his inspiring performances, stretching right back to his time as one half of The Youngsters on Laurent Garnier’s F Communications. With over 15 years of live performances under his belt, 2016 is the year Olivier Mateu takes it to a whole new level.
The creative realization of this is ‘Visualized’. First introduced at Marseille’s WeAre Festival last month and true to its name, it brings a captivating visual element to the Rodriguez Jr. experience courtesy of interactive programming and automated video mixing that flows with the dynamic of the show.
The effect is intensified with the stripped back, minimalist technical set up on stage: two tetrahedron stands positioned on either side of him mounted with the artist’s keyboards, drum machine, and laptop allowing him to connect and receive feedback from the crowd, while evolving his performance into a fully immersive concert experience.
There’s a kind of nakedness to the performance feel – no production rigs hindering the exchange or visibility between the artist and the audience, the connection between both stronger than ever.
The ‘Visualized’ live show debut will be followed by Rodriguez Jr.’s third studio album in the last quarter of 2016, capping off a mammoth year for the artist. “The goal is to move out of the club configuration we are used to and be more like a concert. I want everything to be connected together: the crowd, the music and the visuals. There should be no border between the audience and I.” – Rodriguez Jr. Visualized tour dates:
